CHARITY CAR

Donating your car to charity is a worthwhile alternative to selling your older vehicle to a private seller or trading it in at a car dealership. Most non-profit charities accept cars in various states of repair and use proceeds from the sale of the vehicle to fund research for diseases or for helping disabled people and low-income families with affordable and sometimes free transportation alternatives. Many car donations are tax deductible. The deduction amount depends on the resell value of the car and whether any repairs need to be done on the vehicle.

Rolls-Royce thinks its new Phantom Drophead CoupĂ© could be the most expensive new car ever sold in the US, after one was bought for million (£1.01million) at a charity auction in Florida.

The bid was the highest price paid in the Naples Winter Wine Festival's seven-year history. The auction is attended by top vintners and chefs, plus TV and film stars. Rolls launched the new Drophead at January's Detroit Motor Show, but the auction's top bidder will have to wait for delivery - production of the £300,000 soft-top starts at the company's factory in Goodwood, West Sussex, this summer
